Artist Statement

My name is Dan McCafferty and I am a Digital Artist as well a design in other media. Recently I have been focusing on design. I have done previous work in design, graphic art, photography, printmaking, painting, film, and graffiti art. Out of everything that I have done and experienced I enjoy digital art and designing the most. Even most of my other works that weren’t digital required some type of designing. I began at TCNJ as a fine art major mostly doing drawings with various mediums. In my third year I switched to a digital art major after taking several classes on digital media. My goal as an artist is to find what type of art I enjoy doing the most and pursuing a career in it. So far I feel like there are a few different paths but this year I plan to focus on one.

Topics on Animation

The animation is not complete yet but I did get some feedback. People thought that the killing in the animation was funny which was what I was going for. After hearing that people enjoyed that part I thought it would be best to add in some more scenes like it. Another thing discussed was the speed of the animation and that it seemed to flow pretty good. I dont have it at a full 32 fps because of all the drawing and scanning. Overall there was not a lot of feed back because its not completed but people are interested in the ending. So I will post reactions after its done.

Kill the noise

After watching the slideshow in silence, my initial thoughts were still to put in soothing piano or violin. It felt like I could have added possibly sound effects such as alarm clock sounds or other noises but that wasn’t my original thought. The only other idea that struck me that I could have done instead of music all together was to add really slow/dry dialogue almost like someone reading a story from a book. Then I

Longest walk of my life: Project one critique

My original idea was the idea that I stuck with for the project and that was to make all my images reflect what anyone would see in a dream. I was pretty happy with most of my images. The only thing I was a little disappointed in was that I did not have enough time to digitally manipulate more. I did each image in PhotoShop and I tried to keep the faces and things you would normally remember in real life blurred out. I felt that I did that pretty successfully because I know I don’t remember a lot of details in my dreams so I wanted to keep that same concept. I added to text to almost act as a narrator in the slideshow which I thought just added mystery into each image.
My sound was written and played by me and I tried to write it so that it was dream-like and soothing. I thought it went really well because I slowed down parts for certain images and sped up for more intense pictures. I didn’t use too many transitions that were fancy but I did a few blurring transitions that went along with the dreams concept. Overall I was satisfied with the entire project and glad that it was all mine and that none of it was taken from the internet or other copyrighted material.

Project concept 2

Im still trying to think of an idea/concept for the next project but i think i wanna make a video using a bunch of movies compiled into one but still having a storyline. I want certain characters talking to others from another movie but for it to make sense. it will most likely be a comedy.

Only In Dreams

I'm midway done editing my pictures for project 1. Its based on images you would see or imagine you would see in dreams. Im trying to use text to make the slide show a little bit obvious that its about dreams because right now it looks just like photo shopped images. A lot of the images are things you could not possibly see in real life. I plan on having very slow piano playing with possibly violin to complete the dream like atmosphere.

t v

I was watching TV and examining commercials to see different techniques and styles. I kinda figured out that there are a few different kinds of commercials: 1. Very short/fast shots and they were close ups 2. long and panning shots. None of them really used transitions or fades. just shot after shot. The only ones that did transitions were the ones that were for kids or kids toys.
